It is not surprising that there are two controversial views regarding the issue of learning a second language at an elementary school.

The first aspect to take into consideration is that it may be quite difficult for a child to learn a second language, especially when there are several other subjects to cover. The thing is that the child will be unable to pay enough attention which will obviously have its impact on the quality of the learning process.

The opposite point of view is as follows: the brain of a child is more susceptible to learning languages which is the reason why it is logical to start leaning one or a few languages at an early age. For instance, Spanish is taught as a second language in the majority of schools in the United States of America. As a result, children are good at two languages at least: English and Spanish which is already a benefit.
