As the sum of student debt has risen over the last few years, we can associate it with the increasing number of college students in the first place. More high school graduates wish to get a classy degree and make a successful career with it. At the same time, the cost of college rises with every year. Establishments hire more professors, buy equipment, and simply perform all the necessary maintenance. But the money does not seem to be wasted – the employment rate among college graduates is higher than among people without higher education. But student loan is a tricky thing, and not everyone wants to start their adult life this way.

Running in debt for higher education is justified if a high school graduate is convinced that they will work in the chosen occupation. Taking loans for a mere prestige of the field is a waste of time and money. Students who have not figured out what they want to do in their life shall take a gap year to volunteer or search for career prospects. An average student can ha4rdly allow them the second or third higher education in case they change their mind.

Naturally, college is not the only way to go after high school. Plenty of technical occupations require only high school degree or an equivalent diploma. One can also become a skilled worker with the associate’s degree that takes less time and money to obtain. Anyway, higher education is not a universal remedy and it will not help people who do not know how to use it.
